SOFIA’S TIPS
What I’d tell you.
Go to Sineu on a Wednesday. According to the market page, the market runs from 8:00 to 14:00, and the T3 train stops in the village.
During the almond blossom, the view from the hills across the plain is well worth it. The Consell compares it to a snowy landscape.
Petra is home to the house where Fra Juníper Serra was born. According to the municipality, the museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 13:00.
On the Saturday before Sant Lluc, Algaida holds its Fira tradicional. In 2026 that’s 17 October.
In summer it can get hot in the interior. Check the AEMET weather warnings before a trip.
The quiet heart of the island
The Consell de Mallorca describes Es Pla as the Mallorca of old: green, ochre and golden fields, with small villages of stone houses and church towers in between. On the hills stand sanctuaries, monasteries and hermitages with all round views. Thanks to its position in the centre of the island, Sineu was once the seat of a royal palace; according to the municipality, the Palau Reial was built in the 14th century on top of an Islamic fortress.
