SOFIA’S TIPS

What I’d tell you.

  1. Take the train. It stops at Santa Maria, Alaró/Consell, Binissalem, Lloseta and Inca, so you can easily combine two places in one day.

  2. Thursday is market day in Inca, Sunday in Santa Maria del Camí. Come in the morning.

  3. In the wine country around Binissalem you’ll come across the Manto Negro grape. Red wine with DO Binissalem has to contain at least 30 per cent of it.

  4. According to the municipality, the climb to the Castell d’Alaró is 4.2 kilometres long. Allow enough time and take enough water.

  5. Check the TIB timetable before heading back, the last connection won’t wait.

Between mountains and plain

The Consell de Mallorca describes Es Raiguer as a transition zone with a varied landscape: woods, valleys and fields, plus villages on the edge of the mountains. Inca is the main town and known for its leather crafts. The region also includes Alcúdia with its medieval town walls and Roman remains.
